Some high-quality scanned images previewing Half-life 2 have popped up on this website and this website. Be sure to check them out; they look very kickass! A big increase on the old Half-life engine I must say.
Update: In the article, it mentions that the HL2 engine was done a year ago and that Counter-Strike for the HL2 engine has already been in development for a year by gooseman and his team. This information has not been confirmed yet.
Update: Half-Life 2 is scheduled for a September 30th release. Here are some more tidbits.
- Yes, you're still Gordon Freeman, and yes, the story assumes you went to work for the G-Man.
- Half-Life 2 takes place in a European city called "City 17."
- Headcrabs will be back! Although some of the Xen aliens will be your friends?
- Barney is back. And so is Half-Life's original writer, Marc Laidlaw.
- While the new engine has all sorts of fancy features, it's still designed to work on lower-end machines. Apparently a 700mhz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2ghz with a GeForce4 is recommended.
- The girl in the promo art is named Alyx, a daughter of a scientist who factors into the story somehow. She's not playable.
- Scripted Sequences will be more interactive.
- Half-Life 3 is planned, so expect another cliffhanger ending.
Update: Apparently a lot of HL2 images are going down all over the net due to PC Gamer's request. I guess you might have to wait until PC Gamer's release of its July(?) edition of their magazine.
Update: Half-life 2 will be displayed at this year's E3.
Update: Gamer.nl has publicly leaked some information: the first is that the magazine embargo ends on April 28th, so magazines can publish their Half-Life 2 articles after this date. It's already been shown to certain members of the press.
Update: HL2 images here!
